Midwifery Education and Ethics

How should ethics be incorporated into midwifery training? What are the basic competencies for ethical practice? Some midwifery training programs offer a course in ethics/law/professional standards, whereas other require a short workshop or independent study. We'd like to hear from midwifery students, educators, and practicing midwives about this subject.

Standalone courses in ethics are common in medicine, psychology, and other related disciplines, and practitioners in many fields are required to obtain continuing education in ethics annually. What about midwifery? What do midwives need? What should be required?
